The winner of the TV talent contest was signed to record label Sony last night and a press release about his self-titled debut was promptly distributed this morning.

The album, set for release on December 9, is a collection of songs performed by the teenage rock sensation throughout the series.

But the song that almost cost him his place in competition has mercifully been left out.

Mastin's performance of Celine Dion's All By Myself was panned by the judges towards the end of the competition, causing them to doubt whether he would make it to the grand final.

No doubt Sony and Mastin's mentor on the show Guy Sebastian, who chose the song for the performance, would prefer fans to forget it ever happened.

The album is dominated by rock classics and features Mastin's winner's single, Good Night, as well as Dream On, Closer To the Edge, Joker and the Thief, Paradise City, Break Even, She Will Be Loved, Always, Staying Alive, Ironic and I Kissed a Girl.

"Wherever music is calling me I will go there,'' he said.

"I want to go international so badly, I don't want to not use this oppotunity, and I will give 110 per cent to get as big as I can.

"I don't think there has been someone singing rock 'n' roll for awhile. It is missing so hopefully I can bring it back.''

Mastin said he would have a mentor to help him get through school as he forges a music career.

"I really want to finish year 12, I think it is important," he said.

After the show, elated mentor Sebastian said he always knew his boy would take home the title.

"I think we have finally found someone who we can take to the international stage," he said.

Despite battling vocal strain, Mastin was the clear crowd favourite from the get go.

"You have been my rock... I wouldn't be here without you," Wishart told his family in the audience.

Perth contestant Johnny Ruffo was the first grand finalist to be ousted from the competition.

"We love us some Johnny Ruffo, your journey has been incredible," judge Mel B said.

In his speech a shell-shocked Ruffo thanked the wardrobe department, the crew, Sebastian, his mum, family and fans.
